Fat Rabbit is a Michelin Recommended restaurant and whole animal butcher shop in St. Catharines. We work closely with small ethical farms and practise zero waste butchery. We are hiring an experienced Bartender who genuinely loves hospitality and wants to work within a serious and evolving food and beverage program.
Role Overview
The Bartender reports to the Chef, Owner, General Manager, and Bar Manager. This role supports the day to day operation of the bar while delivering a premium guest experience.
Our food and beverage program is detailed and constantly evolving. The right candidate understands that working in this environment requires curiosity, initiative, and a genuine commitment to learning. You will be expected to invest time and energy into understanding the menu, the sourcing behind it, and the beverage program so that you can confidently guide guests through the experience.
You manage the bar with intention, maintain a clean and organized workspace, and communicate closely with the service and kitchen teams to ensure smooth service. The right candidate is organized, composed under pressure, and motivated by the details that elevate a guest experience.
Responsibilities
- Maintain thorough knowledge of cocktails, wine, spirits, beer, and non alcoholic beverage offerings
- Develop a deep understanding of the food program, ingredients, allergens, and sourcing in order to guide guests effectively
- Prepare cocktails and beverages, including classic and house cocktails, with consistency and attention to detail
- Provide confident and professional wine service including presenting, opening, and pouring wine tableside
- Monitor and maintain the quality and presentation of beverages served
- Promote menu items thoughtfully and contribute to overall sales through informed recommendations
- Respond to guest questions, requests, and concerns with professionalism and urgency
- Stay current on food and beverage knowledge to educate guests and enhance their experience
- Ensure guests leave feeling their experience was outstanding
- Execute proper steps of service and responsible alcohol service
- Verify identification in accordance with Smart Serve requirements
- Operate the POS system accurately, including all sales transactions and opening and closing procedures
- Open and close the bar according to established procedures
- Maintain bar inventory and communicate low stock or ordering needs to management
- Keep the bar and service areas stocked, organized, and clean at all times
- Maintain washrooms so they are clean, fresh, and fully stocked
- Assist management when required and help maintain service standards on the floor
- Communicate positively and professionally with all departments to ensure guest needs are met

Health & Safety
- Work safely in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and related regulations
- Follow safe food and beverage handling and sanitation standards
- Adhere to responsible alcohol service and Smart Serve guidelines
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work extended shifts and remain on your feet for the majority of the day
- Regularly carry beverages and bar equipment in a fast paced service environment
- Comfortable performing in a high energy, high pressure service environment
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Comfortable climbing a ladder to access stock when required
- Comfortable working indoor dining and outdoor patio service with exposure to heat, cold, sun, rain, and wind
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of bartending experience required
- Valid Smart Serve certification required
- Strong beverage knowledge required
- Wine knowledge and comfort with tableside wine service essential
- Wine, beer, and spirits knowledge essential
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Professional presence and clear communication
- Ability to multitask and remain composed during busy services
- Commitment to succeed in a team oriented environment
- Evening and weekend availability required with flexibility based on service needs
Position Details
Full Time and Part Time positions available. $18 per hour plus gratuities. Weekend availability required. Scheduling varies based on service volume.
